- It shows the character of circle and centrifugal force,
- It represents a centrifugal body.
The Sides of the Octagon
- This is "square (□)" principle, one of the dynamic principles in Hapkido,
- It is for destroying the balance of opponents when attacking and defending.
- It represents centripetal force.
Angular Points of the Octagon
- This is "triangle (△)" principle, one of the dynamic principles in Hapkido,
- It represents the attack point and the power of concentration of the attack direction.
- It signifies the body of concentration.
和(Hwa) of Center
- This is "Hwa (harmony)" principle, one of the physical principles in Hapkido,
- It is harmony of circle and flow,
- It represents the harmony of ki energy with an opponent.
〇(won) of Center
- This is "Won(〇-circle)" principle, one of the physical principles in Hapkido,
- It shows movement and the attributes of a sphere,
- It represents the continuity of breathing and centripetal force of Ki energy.
Streamline(ryu) of Center
- This is "Ryu(≋-flow)" principle, one of the physical principles in Hapkido,
- It is connected with the operation with dynamic principle and physical principle,
- It signifies the sending of power in the flow of Ki energy.
Black Color of the Outer Octagon
- This is "negative ki energy," principle, one of the negative energy and positive energy principles in Nature.
- It represents absorbing the opponents body balance, breathing, and thinking when we touch the opponent.
White Color of the Center Circle
- This is "positive ki energy," principle, one of the negative energy and positive energy principles in Nature.
- It represents the explosive power of ki energy from the hypogastrium when we attack an opponent.
Color of Green
- This is clear and sincere.
- It means "dojang"(gym), the base of hapkido training.
Color of Orange
- This is modesty and humility.
- It represents the "dobok"(training uniform) of a person over the level of instructor.
Color of Dark Blue
- This is nobility, profundity, dignity, and great personality,
- It represents the dobok of all training people in Cheong Kyum.
청 (Cheong)
- The spirit which a hapkido person must have,
- It means "clear spirit.
겸 (Kyum)
- This is the mind which a hapkido person must have,
- It means "modest mind."
회 (Hwoe)
- This is a hapkido person`s association,
- It means "organization," founded upon the clear spirit and the modest mind.
